ENGLISH ESSAY

At dahil hindi ko pa napapasa yung essay ko sa English, itatype ko siya rito. Gusto ko lang ishare. :)))

PROUD TO BE FILIPINO?

Jose Rizal said, "Why independence if the slaves of today will be the tyrants of tomorrow?"

Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Melchora Aquino fought hard for our country's independence. Rizal used his intellect and the power of his pen while Bonifacio fought radically. Tandang Sora helped the injured and the sick. Each of them had their own ways of fighting for our independence. They had their part.

And this one made me proud to be Filipino. But this faith of mine in my fellowmen and nationality faced a great test. Through the wide use of internet, I was able to access different videos from Youtube and different articles from various websites that discuss and present the indecency and the mediocrity of life in the Philippines. They keep on asking the same question again and again, "Are you proud to be a Filipino?". At first, I would instantly say say but you cannot omit the concrete evidences and facts that the videos and articles contain. As a MaScian, I was taught to be objective in viewing other people's opinion so I tried to see what were the things that they were trying to say.

"Most of the Filipino citizens are depriced of having a decent life that they rightfully deserve. Better education, peace and security and real human dignity. A lot of hungry Filipino children, avoidable deaths due to ignorance, greed for wealth and power, poverty driven criminals, continuous violation of law in all levels of society and eternal suffering of poor Filipinos." Are you proud to be a Filipino? They said, we shouldn't be, we have yet to earn it as a third world country.

Some might say, "I'm proud to be a Filipino because of Charice, Manny. Arnel, etc etc." That's the problem wih us, Filipinos. We kept on claiming other peoples victory but we neglected them when they were still in the Philippines. We didn't recognize them. When other nations recognized them, we also did. And those reasons stated above made me think thing twice before answering the question, "Are you proud to be a Filipino."

With all those things presented in front of me, I would honestly say that I doubted my belief with my fellowmen because most of those were true. Yet, I would still say yes. Why? I have been giving my part as a youth, as a student leader and I have done something that broke the cycle. Like Rizal, Bonifacio and Tandang Sora, I could do a big thing in my own way for my beloved country. Bu then, there are still a lot of things that I should do to prove that I should be really proud to be Pinoy.

If only most of our politicians serve our country honestly. If only people would not violate rules and regulations. If only Filipinos wouldn't be selfish and wouldn't have colonial mentality. If only Filipinos stop pointing to other people. If only Filipinos would have faith in themselves. If only Filipinos would have the guts to take the lead and step forward; be disciplined by starting within themselves. IF ONLY FILIPINOS WERE UNITED.

A lot og 'if onlys'. We almost attained the peak. We just gave up and continued to go down instead of going up. But I firmly believe that if we were able to reach that far, we could still do that today. From a third world country to a first world country? It's not impossible. Let's just break the if onlys.
